Warmer weather is here! Here’s how we’re keeping our classrooms cool
Warmer days are here again and that means managing our classrooms and portables to ensure staff and students remain comfortable indoors as temperatures rise.听
As in previous years, schools across our district that do not have cooling systems are taking (or will take) measures to mitigate heat. These actions may include:
- Using existing air flow systems to purge hot air out of buildings overnight, to ensure we鈥檙e starting the day with cooler air.听
- Monitoring internal and external temperatures on hotter days so staff can adjust the air flow intake as required.听
- Purchasing and setting up new fans in classrooms/portables that need them.听
- Reducing heat generated indoors on hot days by closing blinds and window coverings, limiting the use of overhead lighting and electronics that can emit heat, and maximizing air flow in classrooms.听
- Moving outside into shady spots, into gyms and libraries, and other areas that have better air circulation or installed cooling systems.听
Families are also encouraged to prepare their children for warmer weather by:
- Making sure students come to school in appropriate attire, such as breathable clothing, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, etc.听
- Ensuring students have water bottles and providing snacks/lunches that have high water content such as oranges, cucumber, watermelon, etc.听
- Providing personal cooling devices (e.g. ice packs, handheld fans, etc.) to children who are sensitive to heat.听
